Ο Βίκτωρ Ουγκώ ή Βικτόρ Ουγκώ (γαλλικά: Victor Marie Vicomte Hugo, γαλλική προφορά: /vik.tɔʁ ma.ʁi y.ɡo/, 26 Φεβρουαρίου 1802 – 22 Μαΐου 1885) ήταν Γάλλος μυθιστοριογράφος, ποιητής και δραματουργός, ο πλέον σημαντικός και προβεβλημένος εκπρόσωπος του κινήματος του γαλλικού ρομαντισμού.

Από τα πρώτα χρόνια της εφηβείας του αντιλήφθηκε το λογοτεχνικό του ταλέντο και ξεκίνησε τις μεταφράσεις έργων από τα λατινικά καθώς και δικές του πρωτότυπες ποιητικές εργασίες. Η αξία του αναγνωρίστηκε σύντομα μέσα στον γαλλικό ακαδημαϊκό κύκλο αλλά και στο ευρύτερο αναγνωστικό κοινό. Ταυτόχρονα ασχολήθηκε με την πολιτική μεταλλασσόμενος βαθμιαία από φιλομοναρχικό συντηρητικό σε ριζοσπάστη δημοκρατικό. Την τελευταία περίοδο της ζωής του γνώρισε τη λατρεία του γαλλικού έθνους, ταυτιζόμενος με την ίδια τη Γαλλία, όπως ο ίδιος έλεγε στο ποίημά του Lettre à une femme (Γράμμα σε μία γυναίκα): "Je ne sais plus mon nom, je m'appelle Patrie!" (Δε γνωρίζω πλέον το όνομά μου, ονομάζομαι Πατρίς). Προ πάντων, όμως, ήταν ο ποιητής του νέου κόσμου, ο προφητικός, παραισθησιακός φιλόσοφος και μυθοπλάστης μιας ριζικά νέας εποχής.

Juliette Drouet (French pronunciation: [ʒyljɛt dʁu.ɛ]; born Julienne Joséphine Gauvain [ʒyljɛn ʒozefin ɡovɛ̃]; 10 April 1806 – 11 May 1883) was a French actress. She abandoned her career on the stage after becoming the mistress of Victor Hugo, to whom she acted as a secretary and travelling companion. Juliette accompanied Hugo in his exile to the Channel Islands, and wrote thousands of letters to him throughout her life.

Judith Gautier (25 August 1845, Paris – 26 December 1917) was a French poet, translator and historical novelist, the daughter of Théophile Gautier and Ernesta Grisi, sister of the noted singer and ballet dancer Carlotta Grisi.

She was married to Catulle Mendès, but soon separated from him and had a brief affair with the composer Richard Wagner during the late summer of 1876. She collaborated with Pierre Loti, the famous novelist, in writing a play, La fille du ciel (1912; English, The Daughter of Heaven), translated and produced under their personal supervision at the Century Theatre, New York City. She was an Oriental scholar and her works dealt mainly with Chinese and Japanese themes. Her translations were among the earliest to bring Chinese and Japanese poetry to the attention of modern European poets. She was a member of the Académie Goncourt (1910–17).
